Exmouth Town Golf Society 2007
Wave Goodbye to the winter gloom, Sunshine bursting from those dark clouds, the smell of spring and primroses, and your large warm winter coat resigned to the cupboard for another 8 months. A new season on the horizon. On the other hand! You thought it might be a good idea to replace those worn out studs in you favourite golf shoes, only to find them welded solid in the soles.
That wet old glove you stowed away in your golf bag last year, is now a marvel to micro biology and your battery’s knackered on your trolley! The new season is upon us.
Welcome to ETGS 2007
It’s with great honour I am bestowed with the captaincy for the forthcoming season.
I take my hat off to Nic for his outstanding efforts last year and think we can all agree he made a difficult and time consuming job look very easy. A hard act to follow.
Reflecting on the results at the end of last season, it seems we’ve finally cracked the handicap issue resulting in a much closer competition. In fact, the top four all had a shout at the title come the last match! This can only be attributed to the hard work of the committee. Well done to these and well done to Phil, a worthy champion.
It’s great to see some of the higher handicappers winning events and reducing their handicaps accordingly, and with what I believe to be a better standard of golf being played throughout the entire membership.
It’s also good to see some new faces on the starting list. I’ve personally made some good friends from the society over the last few years. This being testament to the nature of the society and the characters it allures. Guests are always welcome.
The battle of the Warren with the Coaver club is a must win, with last years defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. With some clever pairings and a little thought, I’m sure I can lead the team to victory for 2007. The competition is on for your position.
The events are now booked for the forthcoming season with little change from last year. The tour is going back to sunny Cornwall and Bowood Park, a popular choice and a great venue. Why spoil a good formula.
I’ve been asked to remind everybody your membership is now due. Please send your cheques to our new treasurer.
On a final note and for anyone who’s vaguely interested, the ankle seems to be much better now after my encounter with the pavement last October. Many thanks for all your sympathy?
See you all at Lyme Regis, fog horns and flares at the ready!
